Home Bottled in Jars

Food Stored in Home Bottled Jars

Certain food can be preserved at home in jars. The popular sizes range from 1/2 pint to two quart. The opening can be either regular or wide mouth.

Although you can reuse mayonnaise jars and other food jars, these tend to be weaker and can break more often when placed under the high temperatures of canning. We recommend purchasing canning jars of the appropriate sizes and mouth widths as needed. Each jar comes with a ring and a lid. The lid is disposable after the first use but the ring will likely outlast the jar.

For rings, you can also use the lids to the food jars mentioned above and they will work fine. However, you will always need a new lid each time you use the jar.

Food stored in Home Bottle Jars can be stored on a shelf at room temperature, preferably in the dark.

If the lid has bubbled up, the food may be spoiled and the contents of the jar should be discarded.
