Freezing Food

Food can be frozen and stored for a long time, as long as the temperature does not rise far enough to let the food thaw. Below are some tips to help you have success in Freezing Food:

  • Air - You should try to remove as much air as possible from the package before you freeze food.
  • IQF - This stands for Individually Quick Frozen. It is a simple method of quickly freezing something by separating the pieces on a cookie sheet and then freezing them. After they are frozen, they can be collected and bagged together. This is especially effective to freeze berries so they do not all stick together in one giant berry ball.
  • Thaw - If uncooked meat thaws, it needs to be cooked before it can be refrozen. However, if there are still ice crystals in it, it will be OK to refreeze without cooking.
  • Wrapping - Freezer food should be well wrapped to avoid freezer burn.
